Year 9 Autumn

What are we learning?
What Knowledge, Understanding and Skills will we gain?

Students will learn about the different types of childcare settings and local provision and how to prepare for a work placement 0-5.

Students will gain the skills to complete a written task (from vocational visits) to show an understanding of the key issues for a childcare worker.

Students reflect upon the roles and responsibilities of the Early Years worker.

They understand and can articulate complex issues in relation to equality and inclusion, confidentiality and meeting individual needs.

Students will complete two introductory, word-processed Cache assignments towards the set moderation A-D grade criteria. This will be internally assessed.

Year 9 Spring

Students will learn about how to prepare for a work placement with children aged 0-5.

Students will gain the skills to complete a written task (from experiencing vocational visits) to show an understanding of the key responsibilities of a childcare worker; in relation to respecting individual needs, diversity and inclusion.

Students reflect upon the roles and responsibilities of the Early Years worker.

They understand and can articulate complex issues in relation to equality and inclusion, confidentiality and respecting the individual needs of all children.

Students will complete two introductory, word-processed Cache assignments towards the set moderation A-D grade criteria. This will be internally assessed.

Year 9 Summer

How will these be assessed?

Students will learn about how to prepare for a work placement with children aged 0-5.

Students will gain the skills to complete a written task that shows an understanding of the key responsibilities of a childcare worker; in relation to knowing the three main learning styles and using the best study skills for an auditory, visual or kinaesthetic learner.

Students can use their knowledge to advise on the best study skills for each type of learner; including themselves.

They understand and can articulate the importance of the childcare worker using these learning styles and applying them to the development of the children in their care.

Students will complete two introductory, word-processed Cache assignments towards the set moderation A-D grade criteria. These will be internally assessed.

 

Year 10 Autumn

About development of the child from birth to five years old.  Students will learn how practitioners help to develop the physical, intellectual, emotional and social aspects of a child’s life, to prepare them for school at five. 

Students will learn how to reference work using text and web referencing and compile a bibliography.

They will practise responding to exam style questions using exam criteria. They will gain practical experience in a vocational setting, by undertaking regular work placements in our Enchanted Wood nursery.

Students will show a high level of understanding of the milestones and the expected development of children.

Students will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the pattern of holistic development of children in this age category and articulate why this knowledge is crucial for a childcare worker.

Students will complete the first two official Cache assignments towards the set moderation A*-D grade criteria for Unit 2- Child Development 0-5..

This will be internally assessed initially and externally moderated.

Year 10 Spring

About the commonly used methods of observing children from birth to five years old.  Students will learn how practitioners use observation methods to chart the progress and development of a child. 

Students will actually put into practice their own observation method on a child in our nursery, as part of a small group exercise.

They will practise responding to exam style questions using exam criteria. They will gain practical experience in a vocational setting, by undertaking regular work placements in our Enchanted Wood nursery.

Students will show a high level of understanding of the methods of observation and the expected development of children.

Students will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the pattern of holistic development of children in this age category and articulate why this knowledge is crucial for a childcare worker.

Students will complete the second official Cache assignment towards the set moderation A*-D grade criteria for Unit 2- Child Development 0-5.

This will be internally assessed initially and externally moderated.

Year 10 Summer

About the expected and unexpected transitions that children from 0-5 may experience in life.  Students will learn how practitioners should help and support the children & their families to make these transitions as positive and fluent as possible.

Students will gain knowledge and an understanding of the life events that can affect children from 0-5 and the expected outcomes of both positive and negative transition.

Students will practise responding to exam style questions using exam criteria. They will gain practical experience in a vocational setting, by undertaking regular work placements in our Enchanted Wood Nursery on site.

Students will show a high level of understanding of the outcomes of transition to all involved.

Students will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the pattern of holistic development of children in this age category and articulate why this knowledge of strategies to support transition is crucial for a childcare worker.

Students will complete the last two official Cache assignment towards the set moderation A*-D grade criteria for Unit 2- Child Development 0-5.

This will be internally assessed initially and externally moderated.

 

Year 11 Autumn

Childcare provision in the 0-5 age range.

An understanding of the different types of childcare settings and local provision

Students will prepare for  work placement in the 0-5 childcare industry.

We will focus on developing exam practice and strategies to answer extended examination and multiple choice style questions.

Students’ work is supported by independent and detailed research, supported by appropriate text/web referencing and a bibliography.

Written responses demonstrate practical and perceptive understanding of the key issues and responsibilities of a childcare worker.

Students will complete the first two official Cache assignments towards the set moderation A*-D grade criteria for Unit 1- Introduction to Working with Children.

This will be internally assessed initially and externally moderated.

Students will also practice the multiple choice exam paper.

Year 11 Spring

Re-cap/Revise - An Introduction to working with children & Child Development 0-5.

Exam preparation for Multiple Choice Paper 

An understanding of the different types of childcare settings and local provision.

Students will re-cap preparing for a work placement in the 0-5 childcare industry.

We will focus on developing exam practice and strategies for the multiple choice style questions. 

Students’ work is supported by independent and detailed research, supported by appropriate text/web referencing and a bibliography.

Written responses demonstrate practical and perceptive understanding of the key issues and responsibilities of a childcare worker to reach the B & A/A* grade criteria.

Students will upgrade their official Cache assignments towards the set moderation A*-D grade criteria for Unit 1- Introduction to Working with Children.

This will be externally moderated.

Students will also practice the multiple-choice exam paper for the final exam.
