Exploring Enterprise

Students will examine the characteristic of enterprise by investigating two real different SME’s e.g. a service provider or supplier of goods locally and a large SME.  They will identify the purpose, activities and aims of two contrasting local enterprises.

Students are able to identify and describe entrepreneurial characteristics and assess the success of a selected local enterprise.  They will demonstrate a mature understanding of the factors which contribute to successful businesses.

How to write a Business Plan and do a video pitch

Student will develop their knowledge of the key elements of a business plan.  All students to participate in their team and know what is required to complete each section of their business plan and pitch video for the respective business plan.

Student to work collaboratively to complete all elements of their business plan. Students to clearly outlined their business and projected cost. Students to successfully create and edit their business pitch.

Students will be assessed based on the accuracy of the business plan and video pitch.

Trading, Evaluation, Results

 

Students will learn learn about being part of a business team. Each group will learn to manage their own finances, budget for each product and create their product.  Groups will be responsible for marketing their product and producing their financial forecast sheet.

Students will be able to create their product and be able to sell their products to their identified target audience.  Students will to be able to prepare their sales financial forecast sheet and record their sales and profit for each week.

Students will use trading strategies, presentation skills and will create a comprehensive sales report.

To be successful nationally and to attend the national presentation.

Clear purchasing strategies, product creation and an outlined marketing strategies.  Selling of product to their target audience and recording weekly sales figures against target.

Successfully produce a business report that evaluates each of their business activities.

 

 

Financial well being 

Students will be introduced the benefit financial well being, learning how to calculate compound interest on their investment and selecting the appropriate saving account. They will learn about the concept of financial wellbeing and its links to mental health.

Students will analyse various reasons for saving and investing. Students will learn the important of saving and explore different saving and investment options. Students will be able to justify how different individual issues are important to investment and saving choices.

To make good financial decisions based on their personal circumstances.

To produce clear financial forecast sheet for themselves. To know how to calculate interest on their saving, to be bale to calculate compound interest on their saving and investments.

Explore how market research helps enterprises meet customer needs and understand competitor behaviour.

Students will examine the characteristics of enterprise by investigating two real different enterprises e.g. a service provider or supplier of goods locally and a large Enterprise.

They will examine how market research is carried out and how it is used to meet customer needs and help businesses to understand competitor behaviour.

Students can successfully evaluate the effectiveness of local enterprises.  They can assess the effectiveness of market research and articulate an understanding of market research methods. They are able to adeptly apply these theories to different situations.  They participate in discussions with articulate and sophisticated concepts.

Students will be able to create their product and be able to sell their products to their identified target audience.  Students will to be able to prepare their sales financial forecast sheet and record their sales and profit for each week.

To be successful nationally and to attend the national presentation.

Students will research the business activities of three SME and analyse their activities against their business strategic vision.

To successfully undertake research into SME and produce a comprehensive fact sheet outlining all their business activities, analyse how their activities align with their strategic vision.

This component starts with students identifying what an enterprise is.  This then leads on to types of Enterprise, the purpose of enterprise, entrepreneurs, customer needs, market research and understanding competition.

Learners will examine different enterprises to develop their knowledge and understanding of the characteristic of enterprises and the skills needed by entrepreneurs.

Students are enthusiastic and develop a curiosity to discuss and investigate real world enterprise.

Students use the internet and the media to keep up with current affairs in enterprise, such as the impacts of recessions, debt, and government policy to enhance their learning.

Learners will explore different types and sizes of enterprise and complete their first assignment towards their BTEC.  This will look at the key features of the enterprise such as business name, date of incorporation, who the owner is, number of employees and business type as defined by turnover and employee numbers.

Understanding how to define a type of enterprise by size and employee numbers.

Understanding the difference between local, national and international enterprises.

Understanding the skills required of an entrepreneur to be successful.

A completed assignment on two local enterprises that have been redrafted after feedback with all 3 mini essays completed and checked for spelling and grammar.
The assignment will include a checklist of key facts on the organisation and have a colour image embedded of the organisations.
Students will have had their first experience of referencing where they found their information and understand that electronic sources of information must be reference by their website and acknowledged within the body of the essay.

A set of mini essays from the Peter Jones Foundation.  Students will need to complete 2 assignments, broken into short sections requiring internet research and then writing 3 short essays of 200 words on their findings following the criteria given.

Internally marked and externally moderated by EDEXCEL. 

Year 9 Summer

Learners will explore customer needs and wants and how an enterprise can meet them.  They will identify how a business can forecast and plan to meet their customer needs leading into market research and how to carry it out using surveys and data collection.

Students will learn to develop their awareness of what an enterprise needs to do to retain and grow their customer base.  They will make links to subjects like media and maths in order to be able to support their understanding of market research.

A completed assignment to develop  understanding on how enterprises use market research to understand their customers’ needs as well as competitor activity.

A set of mini essays from the Peter Jones Foundation.

The assignment will be in 5 parts which includes a poster design and short essays totalling 1000 words.

Internally marked and externally moderated by EDEXCEL.
