iMatter As A Designer

iMatter As A Designer

INTENT

I will continue to focus on solving my design problem through wide and varied testing methods of the detailed prototypes that I will make. I will evaluate and analyse material choice and third parties feedback to be able to justify a detailed manufacturing specification. I will then move on to realise my design solution demonstrating my high level of practical skills using traditional and technology based methods to produce an exceptionally high quality prototype that has the potential to be commercially successful.

Year 7

I will embark on guided skill manufacturing projects to improve dexterity, build on the repertoire of materials and equipment I can work with and enhance my knowledge of design in the world around me. I will gain experience in a practical working environment focusing on safety and accuracy. I will use core making principles and utilise computer aided design. I will explore design and the rationale behind it to inform my own creativity and knowledge. I will reflect on the work of other designers and makers to inform my iterative designing and reflect on my progress.

Year 8

I will further develop my practical skills; working with increased independence. I will start to focus on designing and learn how to add my own creativity and imagination to my designs. I will learn about sustainability and ergonomics and how to apply its principles to my work. I will explore different materials and how they can be utilised to solve design problems in response to design briefs. I will develop prototypes using the iterative design process to communicate my ideas and responses which will challenge my design fixations.

Year 9

I will complete design and make tasks to enhance my knowledge and understanding of specialist technical principles. I will learn about the theory of a wide range of materials and how they perform in order to help inform my designs in the future. I will learn about the processes involve in working with each group of materials and experience and make demonstrate pieces that involve these processes. I will further learn to communicate my ideas through sketching, modelling and CAD.

Year 10

I will continue my design journey by evolving my design and specialist technical principles to develop unique outcomes to enhance the skills I will use in later life. I will select an exciting design context and research a need. My work will progress following the iterative design process: I design and model my ideas then evaluate, remodel and refine until a design conclusion is reached that resolves the context.

Year 11

I will work from open design contexts which will give me room to write my own problem to solve where I will work through the entire iterative design process to develop and realise my final solution. I will investigate and explore problems in the real world to be able to justify a comprehensive design brief and specification that considers the users’/client’s needs and wants and informs subsequent design stages. I will be creative, imaginative and innovative with my design ideas avoiding design fixation. I will be extensively experimental and continue to investigate whilst designing and developing design ideas.
