iMatter As A Food Nutritionist

INTENT

iMatter as a Food Nutritionist because I will develop an understanding of how food impacts the body and where it comes from. I will acquire a wide range of culinary skills to practise and conquer. I will be able to experiment with different ingredients and discover functionality. I will have the ability to prepare nourishing enjoyable meals assisting healthy living and the reflective thought to create ever improving dishes for everyday life.

Year 7

I will learn how to prepare and organise myself hygienically to cook dishes that I can eat and enjoy. I will develop and practise how to maintain safe and hygienic food routines within the confines of a lesson, refining my time keeping and team working skills. I will explore healthy lunches and snacks, learn new culinary terms and how to use the correct equipment to use for given tasks. I will reflect on my work and my diet to help me develop a healthy eating culture.

Year 8

I will embark on a Cultural balanced meals and desserts project to help me enhance hygiene, preparation and cooking skills and reflect on different dishes from around the world. I will plan and evaluate my work utilising culinary language to enhance my practice and consider the Environmental impact. I will learn about high risk foods and reducing risk by applying safety rules to ensure I am safe at home and in school cooking environments. I will also give consideration to how healthy ingredients function in different dishes to help me make good food choices to assist my life and health.

Year 9

I will start GCSE Food and Nutrition by developing my knowledge of cooking methods and why we cook foods. I will enhance my repertoire of skills whilst developing my understanding of food science and the function of ingredients in dishes. I will focus on learning how a safe, commercial kitchen is run and the expectations of staff that work there to ensure food is safe, attractive and nutritious. I will also complete an online Level 2 Food Safety course gaining a qualification for my Record of Achievement assisting my knowledge of food safety. I will consider food choice for different diets, plan and create dishes for set briefs and evaluate my performance refining my practice and writing.

Year 10

I will explore different commodities to enable me to consider food provenance, how commodities are grown or reared and processed. I will study the nutritional values of different ingredients including functions, deficiencies and excess in order to offer advice on how to improve recipes and diet. I will also investigate the working properties of ingredients through investigation to create dishes that explore food science principles in practise and give flavour, texture and an attractive appearance that appeal to customers. I will research, plan and conduct a food science investigation and evaluate my findings to assist my knowledge and writing skills.

Year 11

During my final year I will explore environmental factors affecting food availability. I will then consolidate my knowledge and understanding by undertaking my Non Exam Assessment (NEA) Task 1: Food investigation. During my investigation I will research and investigate a range of given ingredients to discover their functionality. I will then conduct experiments then analysis and evaluate my findings to explain my learning. For my NEA 2: Task 2: Food preparation assessment I will produce an enjoyable, detailed project that will test my research, planning, making and evaluation abilities. I will rigorously revise to consolidate my knowledge and understanding ready for application my summer written examination Paper 1: Food preparation and nutrition summarising my skills and knowledge for life beyond the Deanes.
