iMatter As A Geographer

INTENT

iMatter as a Geographer because Geography inspires us to take an interest in the world and become active global citizens. I will learn about diverse places to realise that others may hold different beliefs and have different values. I will grasp knowledge of people, resources and natural/human environments, so that it helps me make sense of my surroundings. Geography challenges me to display empathy towards others and think critically about the issues facing the world. 

Year 7

I will develop an understanding of and learn to distinguish between physical/human geography and I will investigate the world on local/national level to identify places on maps at a range of scales and types. I will learn how to ask geographical questions and think critically to expand my personal experiences of geography. I will explore the processes, features and impacts of river/ coastal landscapes on people/environment and how these can be managed.

Year 8

I will investigate geographical issues such as globalization or natural disasters on a global scale that are relevant to my generation. I will develop my thinking on how/why the world is changing and how, with planning, the future may be more sustainable and how can we be prepared for future hazards. I will demonstrate an ability to explain where, how and why certain events happen and my effects/impact on people's lives.

Year 9

I will develop my map reading and graphical skills and apply my learning to a range of geographical questions to become reflective. I will become confident and competent in selecting, using and evaluating a range of quantitative and qualitative skills and approaches. I will gain knowledge of the changes to the UK’s geography and population. I will develop an appreciation of the changes within UK’s society and learn how to become more an active citizen.

Year 10

I will investigate the many environmental challenges of the UK such as extreme weather or flooding and will make links between these challenges. I will gain knowledge of the key ecosystems and people of the planet. I will study about coral reefs and tropical rain forests as case studies. I will explore the causes and consequences of the uneven development and differences between countries.

Year 11

I will apply my learnt skills on case studies and I will investigate the effects on people and environment. I will be able to apply my existing skills to a particular and real out-of- classroom context during their fieldwork. I will also understand range of techniques and methods used in fieldwork including observation and different kinds of measurement. I will be prepared as to how to answer a range of question styles with a key understanding of the exam command terms.
