iMatter As A Graphic Designer

iMatter As A Graphic Designer

INTENT

iMatter as a Graphic Designer because I can begin to understand how printed text and images have been arranged, coloured and placed to have an impact on all of us. I will be able to have some understanding of how messages and information can be created visually to have maximum effect because I will have looked at the work of experts and others to examine how various Graphic Designers work in the modern world as well as the past. I will be able to make judgements about the work of Graphic Designers in the world around me and how it has impacted on my choices, preferences and opinions. I will develop a lifelong passion for design.

Year 7

Year 8

Year 9

I will begin to look at the work of professionals in the field of Graphic Design, both contemporary and past. I will start to develop a critical understanding of their work and will complete a number of short projects to demonstrate this evolving skill. I will complete a longer project using the iterative design process to develop a completed Graphic Project which I will present along with the work of peers to develop my ability to explain and justify my design decisions. I will work throughout with a variety of media, developing my understanding of their qualities.

Year 10

I will use my developing critical awareness by looking at the work of iconic Graphic Designers who have influenced the history of work in the field as well as new designers, who are developing new ways of working. I will use this work as a springboard for my own longer projects, which will allow me to fully develop and explore my own ideas. I will be encouraged to develop the ability to accept and offer criticism as a way of finding new ways to work and new ways to look at my own work and the work of others. I will complete one long project, working individually to develop a range of outcomes.

Year 11

I will use my skills and critical awareness to produce an outcome in response to one major brief, fully developing a final piece of work which demonstrates my ability. I will begin by choosing appropriate works from the field of Graphic Design and using analysis of this work to influence and to explore my own ideas. I will seek the opinions of my peers to help me develop my work, evolving it and changing it in response to exploration and discussion with others. I will also produce a body of work in response to a given brief which I will complete in controlled conditions to demonstrate my ability to work independently and in a concentrated way using the iterative design process.
