iMatter As A Mathematician

iMatter As A Mathematician

INTENT

iMatter as a Mathematician because Mathematics is essential for everyday life and is needed to understanding our world. I will learn how maths relates to science, technology and engineering, and the advances in these fields on which our economic future depends. By understanding mathematics, I will learn how to be creative in solving problems. I will be confident and fluent in developing and using my skills in real life.

Year 7

I will continue from where I left off in Key Stage 2. A large proportion of the content I will study will incorporate number and data skills with an introduction to algebra, probability, ratio and proportion, and graphs. I will be introduced to real world problems that will require me to use my mathematical knowledge to solve.

Year 8

I will develop further understanding of mathematical methods and concepts. I will be exposed to more complex and demanding algebra content where I will need to acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems.

Year 9

I will be required to meet the three assessment objectives; use and apply standard techniques; reason, interpret and communicate mathematically; and solve problems mathematically and in other contexts. As a Higher tier student I will be using my algebra skills to solve complex problems in many abstract situations. As a Foundation tier student I will be mastering my reasoning skills, especially in number, ratio and proportion.

Year 10

I will be given opportunities to comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context. As a Higher tier student I will be working on more abstract concepts in algebra and learning to express my solutions in set formats such as Surd Form. As a Foundation tier student I will apply my skills to real world problems and use my mathematics for everyday situations.

Year 11

I will bring together all of my prior learning and consolidate any gaps in my mathematics. I will explore mathematics in abstract and real world situations and use it to solve problems. I will see how mathematics stems into other fields such as science, engineering and geography and I will apply my mathematics to solve problems in these areas as well as understand that I will be transferring my skills into those subjects. I will use my reasoning skills to justify my solutions.
