Healthy Life-Styles

We will be studying Healthy lifestyles in relation to bullying; cyber-bullying, mental-health issues and lifestyle choices around the effects of smoking.

Students can express well thought out responses to broaden the knowledge and understanding of important health issues.  They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyle choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for healthy and unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.

Year 7 Spring

Healthy Life-Styles

We will continue studying Healthy lifestyles in relation to risk taking behaviours and decision making around the effects of substance misuse; including smoking, drugs and alcohol awareness education. This is linked in with maturity and our first introductions to SRE and the process of going through puberty.

Students can express well thought out responses to broaden the knowledge and understanding of important risk-taking behaviours.  They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyles and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for substance misuse and addiction.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.

Introduction to - Relationships Education

We will be studying personal development in relation to Sexual Relationships Education- puberty, beginning adolescence, positive personal relationships and lifestyle choices around planning for future careers.

Students can express well thought out responses to broaden their knowledge and understanding of positive relationship issues.  They are able to draw comparisons between different personal choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for healthy and unhealthy relationship choices.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.

 

Year 8 AutuMN

'Risk Taking' behaviour 

This term we will be developing our knowledge in the topics of Healthy Eating, Internet Safety, Nutrition and Alcohol Misuse.

Students will express well thought out responses which demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the importance of ‘risk taking and personal decision making’.

A willingness to help others question their decision making and take personal circumstances into account.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question on a given social scenario.

Year 8 Spring

Positive Relationships 

We will be studying personal relationships with regard to family life; divorce, domestic abuse and exploitation, concerning issues and lifestyle choices around both positive and negative relationships.

Students can express well thought out responses to broaden the knowledge and understanding of positive relationships.  They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyle choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for maintaining positive and negative relationships.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.

Personal Development & Safety

We will be studying personal development with regards to planning for future careers and issues and personal choices around decision making and risk taking in drugs awareness. Finally; posing life changing decisions, with regards to moral dilemmas and organ donation.

Students can express well thought plans and justification for their future career path. They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyle choices and substance misuse and make further judgements based on evidence of reasons for having to make informed; potentially life-changing decisions.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.

Healthy Relationships

 

Students will learn about positive and healthy relationships with regards to domestic violence and peer on peer abuse.

An understanding of HIV and Aids with regards to the importance of safe sex.

Students will be encouraged to  provide thought out responses to broaden the knowledge and understanding of important relationship and health issues.

Students can draw comparisons between different relationship choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for both negative and positive relationship choices.

They develop wider social links and question the role of the media and stigma of some diseases, concerning the medical advances in modern treatment.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment to check for the understanding of SRE statutory requirements.

We will be studying Healthy lifestyles in relation to substance misuse, social media & internet safety and lifestyle choices around the effects of positive relationships- peer abuse and domestic abuse. 

Students can express well thought out responses to broaden the knowledge and understanding of important health issues.  They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyle choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for negative risk-taking lifestyle choices and behaviours.

Risk Taking Behaviour & Sexual Health

We will be studying personal risk taking behaviour and peer pressure in relation to the dangers of gang culture and knife crime.

We then extend the risk taking theme in relation to healthy lifestyles; safe sex and sexually transmitted infections.

Students can express well thought out responses to explain the current problem with youth knife crime in the UK.  They are able to draw comparisons between different lifestyle choices and make judgements based on evidence of reasons for negative risk taking sexual choices and behaviours.

Students will be formally tested at the end of each term, to cover all of the topic areas they have studied. This is a summative assessment that ends with an extended writing question.
