Each student will record their weekly attendance, achievement and conduct points. They will reflect on their targets to improve. 

An attendance figure of no less than 98%. No behaviour points, maximum weekly conduct points and additional conduct and postcards received from individual subject teachers. 

Tutors and DOKs will monitor and discuss progress towards improved attendance and behaviour points, celebrating progress and supporting where necessary.

Students will take part in the weekly celebration of individual and group achievements and reflect on the theme of the week.

Students will be attentive and will actively celebrate the achievements of others. They may receive their own award. They will be engaged in the theme of the week and will reflect on the message.

Tutors and students will record and celebrate those students who receive accolades and rewards. Tutors will follow up on themes discussed with individuals or groups. 

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR)

Each student will read a book of their choice to improve their literacy. During this time, students can read a publication of their choice. 

Students will read a book or publication which is appropriate for their reading age and will be able to recall the content afterwards. They will record their place in their book or publication.

Students will progress through a number of appropriate books, publications, strengthening their reading habits, improving their reading ages and reading habits. 

Personal organisation

Students will reflect on the differences between expectations of Secondary School with regards to homework, number of subjects and the personal organisation that this will involve. Students will learn how to use their student planners to improve their personal organisation and to improve resilience. Students will be encouraged to take ownership of their own school requirements depending on their own personal situation.  

Students will organise their own homework plans. They will use their planners effectively and will always get homework in on time, using SMH to help them, with their planners as a supplementary guide. They will organise their own lunches, PE Kit and uniform. They will be able to record jobs, tasks or responsibilities which they do at home for the family or home situation. 

Students will achieve a 1 or 2 in the Homework section of the RAGs at each point in the year and they will have receive maximum STAGs for attitude for learning, with additional given at times throughout the term. 

Resilience

Students will reflect on the difficulties they may face at school at different times throughout the school year. Difficulties with a particular subject, homework completion or difficulties with peer on peer relationships. Guided by tutors, they will look at different methods of resolving these issues and how to develop confidence and resilience. 

Students will be able to resolve difficult situations by initiating help for themselves. They will be able to encourage their peers to do the same and will know who or where to go to for assistance within the school and perhaps the wider community. 

Students will know how to resolve issues and will also be able to advise their peers. They may have personal experience or may be able to recount a situation had by a friend or peer. 

Year 7 Spring

Communication and Confidence

Students will look at different methods of communication and how to be a better communicator. They will look at different ways of communicating – conversations, speeches, face to face debates and telephone calls, emails etc.

They will look at the requirements of each and learn the characteristics of high quality content in all aspects. 

Students will be able to characterise the qualities required for a range of high quality verbal interaction. They will have made a successful phone call and will have made notes on their findings.    

Students will have made a phone call to recover information. Tutors will discuss their ongoing knowledge and skills. 

 

Written Communication

Students will look at different methods written communication pertinent to their age and ability. They will look initially at the requirements of the school in terms of presentation in their exercise books and will discuss with their tutors why these expectations are in place.

They will then look at other types of written communication and the characteristics which make each one successful, emails, letters, forms, newspaper articles.  

Students will be able to characterise the qualities required for a range of high quality written communication. They will have written a successful email which uses appropriate communication methods to get information.     

Students will have written an email to recover information. Tutors will discuss their ongoing knowledge and skills.

Summer Project

Using the skills learnt in Autumn Term and Spring Term, students will undertake a Personal Project, which will be on a subject of their choice. The project will consist of a written element, with a presentation to the Form to be undertaken during the last Summer 2. 

The Projects should be undertaken and completed in Summer 1 term and presentations should be during Summer 2.

Students will present to their Form on the content and conclusion of their personal projects. They will have used a variety of different research techniques and a number of different sources in their project.

Students will present to the class and will hand in their projects to be assessed against criteria.

(AQA Unit Award to be awarded).

Students will be introduced to the idea that, throughout their lives, each of them must take responsibility for leading their personal development. The exploration of heroes, heroines, tyrants and tormentors helps to unravel the concepts of leadership. Working in groups and individually, pupils explore character qualities and leadership skills they must develop if they are to take on these responsibilities.   

Students will contribute to the discussions; they will take notes and will make appropriate written and verbal responses to the exercises for each section, building up to a completed booklet for Unit 1. 

Completion of Unit 1 booklet and a completed certificate.

Using a programme aimed at  improving students understanding of different career paths and attributes that employers look for, students will follow and complete the programme with their tutors. They will look at the requirements of each and learn the characteristics of high quality content in all aspects. 

Students will be aware of different types of further education options and the requirements needed. They will also be more aware of the characteristics which employers look for and will be able to assess whether they have those attributes and how to improve areas of weakness or lack of confidence. 

Students will assess by discussion understanding and clarity of views. Each student will be able to evaluate their current level of confidence.

Specific Year 11 focus:

Post 16 choices

Students will research potential post 16 choices. This will include:

  1. Different further education pathways.

  2. Courses that are of interest to the student.

  3. Colleges / Sixth forms that are of interest to the student.

  4. Possible higher education pathways.

  5. Possible career choices.

Students will discuss and understand the importance of the application process and applying for a variety of courses and colleges that interest them.

Students will also learn how to complete an application and personal statement. In particular identifying their personal strengths and relating this to future aspirations.

Students ask questions relating to post 16 choices to ensure they make the correct further education decision.

Students attend open evenings to broaden their horizons. Students fully engage in research and applications during tutor time.

Post 16 choices - an excel spreadsheet will outline students first and second further education choices. Students also identify and input the grade requirements for their choices.
