Daily Update

7 January 2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

BTEC Music Students

I would like to congratulate our BTEC Music students who sit an external examination today.  They dealt with the whole experience with focused, dedication to their studies and great maturity.

Year 11 Examinations

The government had already announced that GCSE and A-level exams would not go ahead as normal this year.  The Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, announced yesterday that grades will be awarded through teacher assessments.  There is no further details on this, however, I must stress that Year 11 should remain completely focused on their studies and complete all remote learning to the best of their ability.  It is highly likely that teachers will need to use students’ work when providing the exam boards with a assessment grade

Vulnerable Students / Students with Critical Worker Parents

In line with the new regulations for schools, we are offering a provision for vulnerable students / students with Critical Worker parents.   However, I would like to encourage all critical worker families to consider whether their child can be cared for at home, where it is safest, for some or all of the time. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and something for break.  It is also important for your child to bring their own earphones as they may need them for their lessons.

Additional Data Allowances

This new government scheme temporarily increases data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks. This is so that children and young people can access remote education if their face-to-face education is disrupted.

This scheme is open to children and young people who:

  • don’t have access to a fixed broadband connection
  • cannot afford the additional data needed to access educational resources or social care services
  • have access to a mobile device that uses a participating network

If you need to increase your data allowance so that your child can access the internet and online work, please complete this form - https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/MobileData/.

The participating networks are:

  • EE
  • Sky Mobile
  • Smarty
  • Tesco Mobile
  • Three
  • Virgin Mobile

Please note, that the offers differ for each network and there are limits to what these companies are offering.  For more details visit https://get-help-with-tech.education.gov.uk/guide-to-collecting-mobile-information/telling-about-offer

Feedback from today’s Distance Learning

Live Lessons

Some students missed their live lessons today.  Please ensure that your child checks their new timetable on ePraise to ensure that they are logging into their live lessons at the correct time. There were a few pupils today working down the list on ePraise, which is not in any particular order, and they missed their live lesson.

I have reattached the live lesson schedule, which now includes Year 11 live lessons.

Attendance on EPrasie

Please note the attendance on EPraise has not been updated and may not be updated during this lockdown period.  However, we are monitoring the Daily Registration forms that students are completing and we will contact you if we have concerns regarding your child’s engagement with the remote learning.
