Daily Update

8 January 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

Vulnerable Students / Students with Critical Worker Parents

In line with the new regulations for schools, we are offering a provision for vulnerable students / students with Critical Worker parents.   However, I would like to encourage all critical worker families to consider whether their child can be cared for at home, where it is safest, for some or all of the time. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and something for break.  It is also important for your child to bring their own earphones as they may need them for their lessons.

Thank you to those who have booked this provision for next week by completing the form as requested.  We have created our staff rota accordingly.  If there have been any change in your circumstances and you need to book your child into our provision next week, please contact Miss Hampstead directly, khampstead@thedeanes.essex.sch.uk

Feedback from Today’s Remote Learning

Please ensure that your child enters their full name when completing the daily registration form.

A small number of students are having issues with downloading files from EPraise.  Can I suggest that if this happens, you could try using using a different internet browser.  We have found that Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Firefox sometimes behaviour slightly differently.

Additional Data Allowances

This new government scheme temporarily increases data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks. This is so that children and young people can access remote education if their face-to-face education is disrupted.

This scheme is open to children and young people who:

  • don’t have access to a fixed broadband connection
  • cannot afford the additional data needed to access educational resources or social care services
  • have access to a mobile device that uses a participating network

If you need to increase your data allowance so that your child can access the internet and online work, please complete this form - https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/MobileData/.

The participating networks are:

  • EE
  • Sky Mobile
  • Smarty
  • Tesco Mobile
  • Three
  • Virgin Mobile

Please note, that the offers differ for each network and there are limits to what these companies are offering.  For more details visit https://get-help-with-tech.education.gov.uk/guide-to-collecting-mobile-information/telling-about-offer
