Daily Update

24 June 2020

Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you all had a lovely day.

Provision for Critical Workers and Vulnerable Groups

In order to book your child into our provision this week, please complete this form - https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/WB22JUNE/.   Next week's link will be available tomorrow.

This provision is ONLY for  parents / carers  who are critical workers or who have children that are classed as vulnerable.

I wish to stress that parents/carers retain the authority to decide whether school is an appropriate environment for their children. Parents will not be fined for non-attendance at this time, and schools will not be held to account for attendance levels.

Free School Meals

Our next set of vouchers are due to be released on 29 June 2020.  Please check your emails on Monday.  If you have any issues please contact Mrs Hunt - thunt@thedeanes.essex.sch.uk.

Boulogne Trip - July 2020

We have cancelled the planned trip to Boulogne for obvious reasons.

For those parents who paid via ParentPay, refunds will be processed later this week and you will credited with £60 to your ParentPay account.  You will then need to transfer this money back into your own bank account if you wish.

Those who paid by cash, will be contacted to arrange an alternative method for refund.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact finance@thedeanes.essex.sch.uk.

Year 9 Mocks

We have had a few queries relating to Year 9 mock exams.  For convenience, I have answered the four common questions below.

Are there mock exams for Food, Photography, Art or Graphics?

No.  It was not appropriate to set a mock exam for these subjects.  However, you may wish to finish the Distance Learning work set last week in these subjects and email your completed work to your teacher.

How long is the Maths paper?

It is a 90 minute examination.

Where are the listening files for Music?

Mrs Halliday has emailed the files to each student.  Please check your Deanes Student Email account.

The source booklet was not included with the History exam?

There is no source booklet as students have not studied that part of the exam. They only need to complete the 3 questions from the booklet without any source.

The Dove Self-Esteem Project

The Dove Self-Esteem Project has joined forces with body positive activist, Megan Jayne Crabbe (@bodyposipanda) to create a 3-episode DSEP Content Series that parents/carers and their children can watch together whilst spending time at home.

Each class provides educational and uplifting ideas to help young people feel confident in their own skin. The episodes cover the key themes from our Confident Me resources.

They have also produced a resource that is tailored to parents to support them in teaching their children about their self-esteem. It is made up of a series of articles covering key topics that affect children's self-esteem. Each article starts out with an introduction to a theme and why it is relevant.  You can access the resource here.

How to contact us

Can I also remind you that we want to do what we can to support our students and their families during this period.

In order to help with communication, we have set up a quick form.  By using this form, we will be able to respond to you very quickly and it will allow our reception staff to remain at home.

If you need to contact us during this difficult period, please click here.  The form is also on our website under the 'Contact Us' menu item.
