Recent Parental Concerns

We have received a couple of reports of an adult who appears to be following children in the area after school.  These incidents has been reported to the Police and are currently under investigation. I would ask students to be sensible and alert to their surroundings. You may wish to also talk to your child about how they can say safe walking around the local area.

I would like to emphasise that parents and students should not directly interfere as it is vital that we allow the police to conduct their investigations without any impediments. This includes posting unsubstantiated rumours on social media.

If you have any concerns please could you report these directly to the police.

Year 11 Information Evening

During these challenging times we are trying to maintain as normal an educational experience as possible for our students.  At this time of Year 11, we would usually host an Information Evening, where we meet parents / carers and we share our plans for the year ahead.  Due to the importance of this event, we will be hosting the evening via Zoom on Wednesday 14 October from 6pm-7pm.

Please see below the meeting login details:

Settling Back

Hopefully by now your son / daughter will have settled back into school life.  I have been very impressed how well our students have quickly become accustomed to the new routines, structures and rules.

We understand that some students will ‘test the boundaries’ and as a result may receive as sanction, such as a detention.  Whilst receiving a detention is disappointing for most pupils, it is a necessary part of the process of reinforcing and acclimatising to the new rules, boundaries and expectations.

In the past, a small number of parents have expressed their dissatisfaction when their child receives a sanction. Please be assured that if we have any concerns about your child’s behaviour we will make contact with you to discuss how we can all work together to ensure any necessary support is put in place.

We are currently revamping our rewards procedures so we can fully celebrate the successes of our students.  We will be launching the new system after half term, but in the interim, while we update things, you may see some anomalies on EPraise. Please do not be concerned with this.  Miss Fanning will be in touch to explain the new system in due course.

Uniform

Following my email about the boiler problem, I would like to remind you that students can chose to wear their Deanes PE Kit and Hoodie rather than their uniform.  To clarify my expectations, students who choose to wear their PE kit must wear The Deanes PE top with track bottoms or shorts. Sports leggings (blue or black) can also be worn (please ensure your child's leggings are of sufficient quality so as not to be see-through).  The Deanes hoodie is recommended, however, a plain blue or black hoodie or sweatshirt may be worn as an alternative.

I hope you have a lovely weekend,

Desi
