The Carnegie Shadowing Project
19 June 2017
Every year, the students of The Deanes take part in the Carnegie Shadowing Project. This is an advanced reading project aimed at providing students with new and exciting reading material. For several months, students have been reading the books which were on the shortlist for the Carnegie Cillip Award. On 19th June a select group of students from Years 7 and 8 gathered to explore the books on this year’s shortlist. Activities ranged from making inferences from book covers, making presentations to their peers to drafting an advertisement to encourage others to read. The winning title was Salt to the Sea, a novel based around a group of children fleeing from the effects of the Holocaust in World War II.
