Daily Update

16 June 2020

Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Provision for Critical Workers and Vulnerable Groups

In order to book your child into our provision this week, please complete this form -https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/WB15JUNE/.  Next week's link will be available on Thursday.

This provision is ONLY for  parents / carers  who are critical workers or who have children that are classed as vulnerable.

I wish to stress that parents/carers retain the authority to decide whether school is an appropriate environment for their children. Parents will not be fined for non-attendance at this time, and schools will not be held to account for attendance levels.

Year 10 Face-to-Face Sessions

I really enjoyed teaching Year 10 students today.  Both groups were impeccably behaved, following all social distancing and hygiene rules.  We were able to cover a variety of topics including Pythagoras' Theorem and Volumes of Prisms and Pyramids.  This should assist them with their Distance Learning work over the next few weeks.

Tomorrow, it's the turn of Group 5 and Group 6 for their Science sessions.  It is essential that students bring in a calculator.

Remaining sessions this week:

Academic Review Sessions

Miss Gardiner has emailed all Year 10 students explaining the Academic Review Meetings she will be carrying out. Students will need to sign up for a time slot on their allocated day, as per their specific group timetable. Please find below the links for each of the groups.

IMPORTANT - Students must not come on to the school site prior to their allocated time. When they arrive at school, they should wait outside of the canteen. Miss Gardiner will let them know when they are able to come into the canteen for their meeting. In the very unlikely event that 2 or more of the students are waiting for their meetings, they must line up outside the canteen, along the railings, standing 2m apart.

If you have any questions, please contact Miss Gardiner - dgardiner@thedeanes.essex.sch.uk

Free School Meals

We had some good news today regarding the campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford for free school meal vouchers to be provided to families during the summer holidays.

 The details so far are:

  • The scheme will support children who are eligible for free school meals with a voucher to cover the full six week summer holiday beginning next month, which schools will be able to order before the end of term.
  • Vouchers will be provided via the existing system run by Edenred, which will run until the end of the summer term.

Our next set of vouchers are due to be released on 29 June 2020.  We will inform parents how we will be releasing the vouchers for the summer period once more details emerge.

Distance Learning

After speaking to several students today, I am perturbed that they did not know that the Distance Learning work is available on our school website. Can I please ask you to speak to your child to ensure they are aware of the work that is being set?  Please encourage your child to submit their work as required so that staff can feedback and we can record the fact that they are engaging with learning.

For reference, I have provided the direct links below, but there are links on our website under the 'Work Set During Closure' menu item at the top of the homepage.  Students have also been emailed the links.
