Pastoral support assistant


Actual Salary: £16,486 - £17,495 per annum depending on experience

This role is 37 hours per week, term-time only plus 1 week

We are looking to appoint a proactive Pastoral Assistant who will provide excellent support for all students who attend the school. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, positive and demonstrate resilience and adaptability. You will work closely with students to improve their attendance, behaviour and learning potential and along with the other members of the pastoral support team provide practical and administrative assistance to the Assistant Headteacher to promote student wellbeing.

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to enhance the learning of students who have a wide range of social and emotional needs. Applicants must be friendly, enthusiastic and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

The Deanes is a small secondary school and you will become part of a positive, aspirational team that treats each student as an individual and values the contribution of its LSA's who help KS3 and KS4 students to fulfil their potential.

The role:

  • Working with individuals or small groups of children in collaboration with teaching staff;
  • Proactively supporting students with activities designed to enhance numeracy and literacy;
  • Promoting positive behaviour, raising esteem and encouraging an aspirational culture;
  • Working with SEN students to foster their development as independent learners.

You will need:

  • A good standard of education (ideally Maths/English GCSE grade A* to C or equivalent);
  • An understanding of how social and emotional triggers prompt behaviour responses and how to reduce the impact of these;
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to act on your own initiative;
